Safer Surfacing bottle top competition
We exhibited at the Public Space Innovation show last week. The event was held at the NEC, in Birmingham and ran over 2 days.
Wanting to highlight the recycling and revaluing work we do, we decided to hold a competition – to get people thinking about recycling and reuse.
One of our partner companies specialises in the manufacturing of recycled plastic furniture. We decided to take a table and chairs set, made entirely from bottle tops to the show. We chose these products not only because they are fully recycled, but also because they are high quality and look very good too.
In order to emphasise awareness of the major issue that is plastic waste, we asked people to have a guess at how many plastic tops went into making the furniture set.
And the prize is…
You can’t do a competition without a prize, so to support our charity of 2019, Surfers Against Sewage – and the grand prize was a voucher for £50.00 for their online shop.
We had plenty of people enter the competition and the estimates varied from under 500 to over 7.5 million!
There were in fact 40,897 bottle tops in the table and chairs set! For us, this not only highlights the scale of plastic waste, but also the ingenious ways we can revalue and reuse waste products.
Our winner was Steve from Ridgway Golf Design with his estimate of 45,000 being the closest!
A big congratulations to Steve and we hope he treats himself to something nice from their shop – he has a lot to choose from!
Our passion lies in manufacturing products by recycling used vehicle tyres and we are a proud member of Made In Britain.
